Technology Solutions for Workers’ Rights in Supply Chains

The Innovators’ Network to Enable Human Rights (INHR) will be launching a mulit-stakeholder Innovation and Design Workshop in New York, NY on July 18-19 2019. Participants will include the top executives and thought leaders who shape the diaspora of the technology sector and human rights advocates. Verizon will be hosting the event, which will involve many key players in the ICT industry, as well as leading human rights advocates. The multiple stakeholders Workshop will be a  creative, interactive session; aiming to identify 1-3 potential solutions that would enhance the protection and create a commitment of enabling the human rights of workers in global supply chains. It will also identify the next steps that the information and communication technology (ICT) and human rights leaders should take to work collaboratively.

The Challenge

Every industry faces an urgent need to ensure that they are sourcing their products from suppliers that actively respect the human rights of their workers. Yet, holding suppliers accountable and ensuring workers across the global supply chain are protected remains to be one of the most challenging tasks for companies to manage.

Digital technology has great potential to aide corporate buyers, their suppliers, human rights advocates, and workers within the supply chain. Our mission within this Workshop is to help meet this potential, by working collaboratively with both the ICT industry and human rights advocates to scale up solutions to enable the rights of workers within the supply chain.

The Workshop’s core focus

The Workshop will generate ideas from some of the world’s leading human rights NGOs, ICT companies, and technology-savvy entrepreneurs to help solve this issue. The Workshop will focus on developing digital solutions to the following:
  • Increasing the accountability of suppliers across the value chain
  • Empowering workers to protect their rights
  • Protecting workers from abuse, duress and forced labour.
If you are interested in attending the Workshop please RSVP as soon as possible. Space is limited and we expect interest to be high.
