The 4th Global Agripreneurs Summit (GAS) wrapped up its proceedings earlier this week after 5 days of celebrating innovation, technology and entrepreneurship in the agri-food sector. 70 startups from around the globe participated in the showcase and more than 30 hours of content were delivered through panel discussions and keynotes exploring how technology is transforming agriculture and food.

Highlights included the global final of the Future Agro Challenge at which Biome Makers were named Agripreneur of the Year 2019" and won business support services of €50,000 in total value plus extroversion and access to markets opportunities for further expansion. Biome Makers’ technology helps predict disease risk early enough for agricultural practices to be modified to actively prevent it. The European Institute of Innovation andtechnology (EIT) was also represented at GAS through two of its most prolific sections, EIT Food and EIT Raw Materials. EIT Food (its hub in Greece being the organization Industry Disruptors - Game Changers) delivered a Demo Day, with ten teams pitching live to advance in the competition RIS innovation prizes that is expected to conclude by the end of the month.

The Summit was full of opportunities for knowledge and innovation transfer, policy formulation, networking and, most importantly, business to business interactions. Among the investors that made it to the Summit was Piraeus Bank, Greece's systemic bank with a strong agriculture portfolio and funds operating within the framework of EQUIFUND, the investment platform that leverages public, European and private capital to finance innovative entrepreneurship.
