The Coca-Cola Co‘s head of sustainability has said investors are much more interested in environmental issues than a decade ago.
The Coca-Cola Co’s head of sustainability has said that more investors now care about environmental, social, and governance issues
Calling it a “step-change” in mindset, Bea Perez said investors care more about the environment and its economic and social impact. She said the change has led to executives and directors talking more about sustainability goals and a ramping up of eco-targets.
“Ten years ago, many investors did not seem to give business credit [for sustainability],” Perez said. “We’ve seen an entire step-change within the investor community. And now that investors care, more conversations are taking place in the boardroom.”
Giving advice to other companies, Perez said they need to “measure, track and be fully transparent” on sustainability.
“Align on common definitions, have accounting firms assure the data and be more transparent on a quarterly basis, not just an annual basis,” she added.
Perez was speaking last week to Ellen MacArthur, the founder of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
