HYGEIA: Radical renovation of the area layout and investment in new equipment

22.10.2021 Share

After 25 years of successful operation the HYGEIA Radiation Oncology Centre has gone through a radical renovation of its spaces and has also acquired two new state-of-the-art linear accelerators, aimed at providing an integrated and personalised treatment for patients undergoing radiotherapy.

All the areas have been designed on the basis of maximum ergonomics and functionality and were attended to with utmost care and respect for the needs of the patients and their companions. Carefully designed to the tiniest detail, the areas function supportively at every stage of the treatment process, emanating a feeling of safety, serenity and optimism.

As the most modern and best equipped Radiation Centre in Greece and one of the best in Europe, the Centre never fails to adopt every new technology for the patient’s benefit. Within this context, the Centre has recently acquired the Halcyon and EDGE linear accelerators manufactured by the Varian company; these constitute the most technologically advanced radiotherapy systems which allow the implementation of modern radiotherapy techniques as well as Stereotactic Radiotherapy, offering flexibility, speed, precision and efficiency in the treatment approach, widening the horizon in cancer treatment.

The HYGEIA Radiation Oncology Centre also retains two state-of-the-art Linear Accelerators (Versa HD & Synergy AgilityTM manufactured by the Elekta Company), an ultra-modern high-dose Flexitron Brachytherapy unit and the Gamma Knife brain radiosurgery equipment – the only one in Greece.

With this state-of-the-art equipment at its disposal, the Centre’s abundant medical personnel is in a position to individualise the treatment for each and every patient, by selecting the most suitable device and implementing the radiotherapy technique that best addresses the disease.

The experienced Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, Radiation Therapists and Nursing personnel at the Centre collaborate closely for the care of patients undergoing radiotherapy. At the same time, patients have access to all the modern diagnostic and imaging methods in the well-organised Oncology and Surgery Clinics, as well as to HYGEIA’s specialist clinical nutritionists, specialist psychologists and physiotherapists, so as to reach an optimal and individualised treatment.

Chairman and Managing Director of HYGEIA Mr Andreas Kartapanis highlights: “By completing the area layout renovation project and acquiring two new state-of-the-art linear accelerators at the HYGEIA Radiation Oncology Centre, we have achieved yet another strategic goal and have reiterated our commitment to continuously upgrade and modernise our services. In its 50 years of operation, HYGEIA has offered its best to our country and has accomplished a number of significant achievements that make us all stand proud. The operation of the Radiation Oncology Centre is undoubtedly one of them, as it reflects our steady and evolving course which is inextricably intertwined with medical science developments and our commitment for the provision of high-level care, always with respect towards life and the human being”.
