Sustainability Day

From: 08.02.2010 To: 08.02.2010 Share

The Enel Sustainability Day, due to be held in Rome on 8 February, 2010, is intended to become an annual event, at which many of the world’s leading sustainability strategists, scholars and practitioners will come together to identify opportunities, share best practice and create a mutually supportive network.

The first Enel Sustainability Day will focus on "The business of climate change: From a sustainability perspective." It will be informed by the outputs of the United Nations Climate Change Conference being held in December in Copenhagen.

Around 30 international sustainability leaders will participate in the preparatory workshop in Rome to develop shared thinking on the business of climate change. It will include a welcome speech by Fulvio Conti, CEO and General Manager of Enel, and a keynote speech by Mervyn King, former Judge of the Supreme Court of South Africa, Professor Emeritus and advisor to the World Bank, and author of the King Reports on corporate governance.

Subsequently, participants will be divided into moderated working groups to discuss the business of climate change from four perspectives:

  • Frameworks for sustainable business.
Moderated by: Roland Verstappen - Vice President International Affairs and Sustainable Development, ArcelorMittal.
  • World energy and climate police.
Moderated by: Stephan Albrechtskirchinger - Director of Communications and Outreach, World Energy Council.
  • Involvement and engagement.
Moderated by: Warren Feek - Executive Director, The Communication Initiative Network.
  • Mainstream and social media impact.
Moderated by: Trevor FitzGibbon - President, FitzGibbon Media.

Through a partnership between Enel and Azzero CO2 (a company that offers carbon offset services to local governments, companies and citizens), the whole initiative will be carbon neutral. Enel has offset its GHG emissions caused by transport, energy and paper consumption during the event. A total 17 tons of CO2 emissions will be offset through a renewable energy project in India.
