Exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Ioannina
May 7, 2010 - October 31, 2010
Inauguration: Thursday, Μay 6, 2010
Alpha Bank and the 12th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of Ioannina jointly organise the exhibition "Alexander the Great from Macedonia to the edge of the world", for the first time in Ioannina. The exhibition refers to the history of Alexander the Great through his coinage and its effect on the ancient world even after his death.
It presents 220 gold, silver and bronze coins from Macedonia and the Hellenistic kingdoms established following the death of Alexander, among which are included a wealth of Alexandrian tetradrachms and the imitations issued, which constitute solid proof of the influence of his coins. All the coins of the exhibition belong to the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection.
In addition, the exhibition presents numismatic issues bearing the deified portrait of Alexander, the first great mortal depicted on the coins. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue - album in Greek and English.
Guided tours will be offered during the exhibition by prior arrangement.
